The laser, with its focused light beam, allows for extreme precision in the operating field. We use different wavelengths of diode laser light for different treatments. What does the laser whitening treatment look like?
Prior to the treatment itself, the surface of the teeth is professionally cleaned with a special mechanical brush and polishing paste. A special light-curing gel is then applied to protect the gums. The whitening gel is automatically mixed in the dispenser so as to cover the surface of the teeth with a thin layer. The whitening process has several stages – each taking about 10 minutes. Between each stage, the gel is rinsed, reapplied and then re-exposed to the light.
The number of stages depends on the degree of discolouration of the teeth and the intended degree of whitening. What are the recommendations after the whitening procedure?
After the whitening procedure, strongly coloured drinks (fruit juices, strong tea and black coffee) and foods (beetroot, fruit, curry, borscht) must not be consumed for about 2 weeks. Exposure of teeth to extremely low or high temperatures (hot drinks, ice cream) should also be avoided. A mild hypersensitivity can be eliminated with generally available analgesics (e.g. Ibuprofen).
