Laser – what can we treat with it?

Laser – what can we treat with it?

The laser, with its focused light beam, allows for extreme precision in the operating field. We use different wavelengths of diode laser light for different treatments. Laser energy can be used for teeth whitening, for precise cutting of tissues (mainly gums) and for biostimulation, i.e. accelerating healing and regeneration.

Laser whitening

Laser whitening is the fastest and safest teeth whitening method to achieve a stunning white smile. A special gel is activated by the 980 nm laser light, causing the teeth to whiten.

What does the laser whitening treatment look like?
Prior to the treatment itself, the surface of the teeth is professionally cleaned with a special mechanical brush and polishing paste. A special light-curing gel is then applied to protect the gums. The whitening gel is automatically mixed in the dispenser so as to cover the surface of the teeth with a thin layer. The whitening process has several stages – each taking about 10 minutes. Between each stage, the gel is rinsed, reapplied and then re-exposed to the light.

The number of stages depends on the degree of discolouration of the teeth and the intended degree of whitening. During the procedure itself, it is compulsory for both the doctor and assistant and the patient to wear special protective goggles to shield their eyes from the laser beam. The entire procedure takes approximately 60 minutes.

What are the recommendations after the whitening procedure?
After the whitening procedure, strongly coloured drinks (fruit juices, strong tea and black coffee) and foods (beetroot, fruit, curry, borscht) must not be consumed for about 2 weeks. Exposure of teeth to extremely low or high temperatures (hot drinks, ice cream) should also be avoided. A mild hypersensitivity can be eliminated with generally available analgesics (e.g. Ibuprofen). If more hypersensitivity persists, please contact the clinic for professional de-sensitisation. You can find other ways of whitening teeth in Szczecin under teeth whitening

Laser treatment of periodontitis

If you suffer from painful swelling or bleeding when brushing your teeth, this indicates inflammation of the gum tissue (gingivitis). If the problem persists for a long time and is not properly treated, it results in recession and atrophy of the gums around the teeth or even loss of the gums and then the teeth. Laser light (with a 980 nm wavelength) helps to effectively fight gum infections by reducing diseased tissue through laser removal of inflamed epithelium from the periodontal pocket. On the other hand, with a 635 nm wavelength beam, bacteria, fungi and viruses can be eliminated from the internal tissues of the gums by laser ozone treatment, followed by a biostimulation laser to stimulate the tissues to regenerate naturally. Improvements in the condition of patient's gums are often achieved without the need for antibiotics or major surgery. The advantages of laser therapy are therefore indisputable.

Mouth ulcers (aphthae) & herpes

Aphthae and other mouth ulcers develop as a result of lowered immunity, the presence of the herpes virus, irritation from braces or poorly fitted dentures. The 635 nm laser light eliminates pain, destroys viruses and speeds up the healing process. This is due to the mechanism of stimulating wound regeneration with laser light. These procedures are short (e.g.: 30 s. of irradiation) and do not require any anaesthesia. After a few sessions, there is no trace of mouth ulcers (aphthae) or herpes. The accelerated healing process greatly improves patient comfort.

Gummy smile – laser gum correction

Do you have a problem with improperly shaped gums – the so-called gummy smile? Laser light with a wavelength of 980 nm enables bloodless correction of the gum line. This makes the healing process extremely fast and painless - the patient can function normally the very next day.

In this way, a spectacular cosmetic result can be achieved without exposing the patient to a major surgical procedure. In order to qualify a patient for laser gum correction, a consultation is needed along with an examination of the gingival structure, as well as a professional photo session to assess the aesthetics of the smile.
