The original Piezosurgery technology greatly enhances the clinical capabilities of any surgeon and implantologist. Thanks to its patented, controlled, three-dimensional ultrasonic vibrations, piezosurgery is widely used in dental and maxillofacial surgery, implantology, periodontics and surgical orthodontics. Piezosurgery was developed to overcome the limitations in precision of the procedure and intraoperative safety that occur with traditional bone cutting instruments. It allows the surgeon to do what is impossible with other instruments. Additionally, the Piezosurgery technology, which has been refined since 1998, is the only such surgical technology in the world that has been so richly documented scientifically. The secret to this patented ultrasonic technology is the unique software that works closely with scalpel tips. No excessive heat is generated during cutting, and no bone necrosis occurs. Piezosurgery's ultrasound range has been specifically developed for cutting bone tissue with minimal risk of soft tissue damage.
Selective cutting
Bone cutting using piezoelectric vibration is incomparably safer and more precise than procedures performed with traditional drills or saws. The cut is selective. Thanks to the special vibration frequency, the tip only cuts through bone tissue, primarily without disturbing the adjacent soft tissues (e.g. blood vessels, mucous membrane or nerves). Soft tissue does not resonate at the frequency generated by the device, so even if the cutting tip comes into contact with soft tissue, the tissue will not be damaged.
Precision
Piezosurgery allows for precise, micrometric and minimally invasive cuts to be made. For procedures requiring maximum precision and the smallest possible cutting width, Mectron has created tips as thin as 0.25 mm, which is 1 mm thinner than standard Mectron tips.
Accelerated healing
Thanks to the use of piezoelectric vibration and proper cooling of the treatment site using an irrigation system, the bone tissue at the edge of the cut is not subjected to overheating and necrosis. In addition, cavitation occurs as a result of the ultrasonic vibrations. Healing processes are accelerated, so swelling and inflammation are less extensive. All these factors shorten the recovery period and reduce complications after surgery.
Unique vibration range
Mectron's patented two vibration planes, horizontal (macro-vibration) and vertical (micro-vibration), increase control and cutting precision.
Unique and patented dual-band vibration amplitude was used to set the cutting tip in motion:
1. Micro-vibration in the range of 24 to 36 kHz (the Mectron Piezosurgery device has approximately 50% broader range than competing devices). Micro-vibrations prevent the tip from getting stuck in the bone and improve control over the cut.
2. Macro-vibrations in the range of 30-60 Hz. Thanks to macro-vibrations, the incision line is narrower and no bone necrosis occurs.
Unique features of Mectron Piezosurgery®:
